Stagedoor Celebrates the opening of WAITRESS

This is a special note to our Stagedoor family, past and present.

Tonight, along with many others, we celebrate the opening of the new Broadway musical, WAITRESS.  Our happiness, though, is mixed with a profound sense of loss.  One of our beloved alum, Adrienne Shelly, wrote, co-starred, and directed the film, Waitress, which is the original material that the musical is based on.  Adrienne died, rather tragically, in 2006.  Later, the Adrienne Shelly Foundation was created; it awards scholarships, production grants, finishing funds and living stipends to artists.  The Adrienne Shelly Award is presented each year by the Women Film Critics Circle to the film that it finds “most passionately opposes violence against women.”

We honor your memory, Adrienne.

You made it to Broadway.

We will always love you….
